Description
Discovery September 2024, Brent Fogelberg 5E III2 13 • C3f (Far Date, Thorned Neck Die Gouges) (?) Obverse III2 13 - Date set right of normal position. Possible digit in denticles below left side of 8. Reverse C3f - Later die stage with additional gouge at front of neck higher on neck than others. Lighter vertical scratch in front of neck. DPIS - B34/RH5 ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: 1891-S VAM-1C1, 1891-S VAM-1C2, 1891-S VAM-5E Comments: # The 1891-S VAM-1C1 has 5 short die gouges in back of the eagle's neck and 3 in front. The 1891-S VAM-1C2 has had all but 1 (in front) removed. The 1C1 appears to be significantly more difficult to obtain than the 1C2. # The exact same reverse die was used to produce the 1891-S VAM-1C1, 1891-S VAM-1C2 & 1891-S VAM-5E. The 5E shows clear evidence of a significant clashing event. # The date position on the 1891-S VAM-1C1 & 1891-S VAM-1C2 is normal and for the 1891-S VAM-5E it is far.
