Description
1891-S VAM-1D Die Gouges Wing Discovered by Larry Briggs, July 2004. 1D III2 1 · C3h (Die Gouges Wing) (190) Obverse III2 1 - Reverse C3h – Numerous horizontal die gouges in lower part of eagle’s left and right wings. Mint mark centered and upright. DPIS - C3/LE5 Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: 20, additional die pair, 1D Comments: The reverse of this VAM (EDS) boasts not less than 20 die gouges (of varying size) on the eagle! There is an additional die pair currently without a die pair that falls between 1891-S VAM-20 and 1891-S VAM-1D. January 2026 update: Unsure if this comment is related to the post describing a novel obverse pairing with the VAM-1D and VAM-20 reverse - but keep a watch out for that combination as it has YET to be submitted as a discovery coin!
