Description

Discovered by Nick Capuano in 2014 and cataloged by VAMWorld, this Philadelphia Morgan dollar is listed as VAM-6B under classification III2 6 with a C3a reverse, formally titled Slanted Date, Denticle Impressions Below Eagle's Beak. This listing has been flagged as under review for possible duplication of an already-plated variety. The obverse shows a slanted date in the normal lateral position with the left digit 1 sitting closest to the rim, and a small horizontal thread-like die impression below the nostril serves as the primary obverse die marker. On the reverse, two raised triangular impressions appear in a horizontal line to the left of the eagle's beak, spaced at intervals matching the denticle pattern, suggesting they originated from contact with the coin's edge reeding or denticle features during the minting process. These denticle impressions near the beak represent the defining diagnostic for this variety. Collectors should exercise caution when attributing this VAM until the duplication review is resolved, carefully comparing the obverse date slant and the reverse triangular impressions against related listings.
