1890-CC VAM-4 Far Date, Tailbar Die gouge Discovered by Melvin Carmichael, August 1951. This coin is a Top 100 and a WOW! Morgan VAM. 4 III2 3 C3d (Far Date, Tailbar Die gouge) (178) Obverse III2 3 - Date set further right than normal. Diagonal die gouge in back of eye. Reverse C3d- Die Gouge from junction of eagle's tail feathers down to wreath.Centered V CC mint mark tilted to right with vertical spikes of metal at top of both C's just to the left of serif. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This coin has a huge die gouge that emerges from the eagle's tailfeathers and runs into the wreath. # This VAM is known for the huge tail bar die gouge - if it did not have same - it would be known for the massive die gouge in Liberty's eye. There is another very significant die gouge in the bottom of the eagle's left wing (viewers right). # The exact same obverse die was used to produce both the [[1890-CC VAM-4 (TailBar) and the [[1890-CC VAM-12.
