1884-CC VAM-10A

Description
VAM-10A on the 1884 Carson City Morgan Dollar was discovered in 2010 and is catalogued as 10A, obverse III2 9, reverse C3d, die pair 178, with the attribution: Far Date, CC Tilted Left. The Carson City Mint is among the most coveted sources in the Morgan Dollar series, with its CC mintmark carrying a premium from collectors who prize the short-lived Nevada facility. The date is positioned farther from the rim than normal. The CC mintmark tilts to the left relative to the coin axis. An obverse die marker is the dash under the right 8, which was polished away during die finishing — its absence in later die states serves as a progression indicator. A later die state shows more advanced cracks and evidence of a die clash, though no complete letter transfers were confirmed from the clash event. Cross-reference: VAM-10A, die pair 178, 1884-CC.
