Description
1880-S VAM-16A Doubled 8, Polished Obverse Discovered by Michael Ash, March 2007. Revised August 2022. 16A III2 12 - C3ah (Doubled 8, Polished Obverse) (182) Obverse III2 12 – Die chip on right between the loops of the first 8 of the date. Second 8 doubled on left bottom outside of upper loop. Fine vertical polishing lines on all fields. Reverse C3ah – Normal die with medium IV S mint mark. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This reverse die is shared with 1880-S VAM-16, 1880-S VAM-16A, 1880-S VAM-120 & 1880-S VAM-104. Later die state than 1880-S VAM-16 showing remnant of a clash on the reverse that has been polished off.
