Description
The 1877 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-1545 is a proof eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. George T. Morgan's Liberty head, long thought to be modeled on Anna Williams, is here used for a ten-dollar piece; R. W. Julian's research dates it to about May or June 1877. Its arrangement of the motto inspired the J-1510 half dollar, and the design was struck again in 1878 in gold and copper (J-1581, J-1582). The 1877 piece was struck only in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1718, Adams-Woodin 1502 and Taxay EP1083. Cataloged as PCGS #61889.
