Description
Proof twenty cent pattern struck in 1874, early in the metric coinage movement when Mint Director Henry Linderman and Chief Engraver William Barber began exploring designs for internationally compatible denominations. This proof striking in silver is part of the twenty-cent piece design exploration, a short-lived denomination introduced in 1875 and discontinued by 1878 due to public confusion with the quarter conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
Rarity Notes
R-5 to R-7 (Rare to Extremely Rare). Twenty-cent patterns from the denomination's brief existence range from moderately rare to extremely rare.
