Description
Proof quarter pattern struck in 1874, early in the metric coinage movement when Mint Director Henry Linderman and Chief Engraver William Barber began exploring designs for internationally compatible denominations. This proof striking in silver is part of the quarter dollar design studies as part of broader silver coinage experimentation conducted at the Philadelphia Mint under Chief Engraver William Barber.
