Description
The 1875 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-1445 is a proof eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It carries William Barber's Sailor Head obverse, used the same year on twenty-cent and half eagle patterns, and a matching half eagle was made (J-1438 to J-1440a). The aluminum example, ex Woodside, Woodin and Newcomer, is believed unique. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1589, Adams-Woodin 1405 and Taxay EP1001. Cataloged as PCGS #537366.
