Description
The 1875 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-1443 is a proof eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It carries William Barber's Sailor Head obverse, used the same year on twenty-cent and half eagle patterns, and a matching half eagle was made (J-1438 to J-1440a). Two are known in gold. It is struck in gold with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1587, Adams-Woodin 1403 and Taxay EP999. Cataloged as PCGS #61751.
