Description
The 1873 Three Cent Pattern - J-1260a is a nickel three-cent piece struck at the Philadelphia Mint from the regular dies on a broad planchet, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Pollock included it among the patterns because of its broad, slightly heavy planchet of 32.4 grains, but USPatterns.com regards it as a broadstruck mint error, and PCGS has since reholdered the single known example as a mint error. NGC lists it on the Mint State scale. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1401. Cataloged as PCGS #61832.
