1873 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-1260
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Featuring a Liberty Head obverse and Roman numeral III reverse, J-1260 was struck in the standard silver alloy as part of the final year of the Trade Dollar pattern series. The Coinage Act of 1873 also abolished the silver three-cent trime, though the copper-nickel three-cent piece would continue in production until 1889. These 1873 three-cent patterns mark the end of an era for the denomination's silver incarnation.
