Description
Struck in aluminum, J-1262 extends the 1873 three-cent design into the exotic lightweight composition. As one of the final three-cent silver-type patterns, this aluminum striking preserves the denomination's design for posterity in a medium resistant to the environmental degradation that affects silver and copper. The piece represents the last aluminum three-cent experiment in the Trade Dollar era program.
