Description
Among the most significant entries in the entire Trade Dollar era pattern series, J-1310 features a design closely associated with the final adopted Trade Dollar. The obverse presents Liberty seated on bales of merchandise facing left, extending an olive branch in her right hand while her left rests on a banner inscribed LIBERTY, with the sea visible behind her symbolizing maritime commerce. The reverse displays a bold eagle with spread wings clutching arrows and olive branch, with TRADE DOLLAR and the weight specification 420 GRAINS 900 FINE below. This design, struck at the heavier trade weight for Asian commerce, represents the culmination of three years of intensive design development.
