Description

Featuring a modified trade dollar design with adjustments to Liberty's posture and the arrangement of surrounding elements, J-1277 was struck in the standard silver alloy. Each successive modification in the early portion of the 1873 series brought the design closer to the form that would ultimately be selected as the definitive Trade Dollar. The modifications addressed both aesthetic concerns and practical requirements for international recognition.
