Description
Opening the massive sixty-two-variety 1873 dollar pattern series, J-1274 features a Seated Liberty trade dollar design struck in the standard silver alloy at the heavier trade dollar weight of 420 grains. The 1873 dollar patterns represent the climactic final round of the design competition that had begun in 1871, now authorized by the Coinage Act signed into law on February 12, 1873. Every entry in this series was a direct candidate for becoming America's first purpose-built international trade coin.
