Description
The 1873 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1307 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse is William Barber's Indian Princess design, and its reverse his eagle standing on a shield with E PLURIBUS UNUM in the field above. The only confirmed example, cleaned and corroded, sold in the 1981 Harte sale, where it was described as platinum-plated. USPatterns.com notes that many of the white metal trade dollar patterns came from the collection of Mint Director Henry Linderman and may have been struck for his own cabinet. It is struck in white metal with a plain edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1450 and Taxay EP947. Cataloged as PCGS #61593.
