Description
The 1873 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1290 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse shows Liberty seated facing left with a liberty cap on a pole in her right hand and her left hand on a globe inscribed LIBERTY, with two short plow handles and a small wheat sheaf behind the globe, cotton bales before her and the sea in the distance. Its reverse is William Barber's eagle standing on a shield with E PLURIBUS UNUM in the field above. The single example has not been seen since the Farouk sale. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1432 and Taxay EP898. Cataloged as PCGS #61575.
