Description
The 1873 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1288 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse is a Liberty head in the style of Longacre's double eagle, with stars around and the date below, and its reverse a small eagle perched on a shield with E PLURIBUS UNUM above, IN GOD WE TRUST on a ribbon below and the weight and fineness, the reverse also used on J-1315 to J-1319. It was struck only in copper; two are known, one of them in the Connecticut State Library. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1430, Adams-Woodin 1340 and Taxay EP935. Cataloged as PCGS #61573.
