Description
The 1873 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1287 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse, by William Barber, shows Liberty facing right with LIBERTY on the coronet, and its reverse is the TRADE DOLLAR wreath die of J-1220; USPatterns.com notes that the obverse was adapted for the half eagle pattern J-1337. Two examples are confirmed, one of them sold in W. Elliot Woodward's September 1888 sale. USPatterns.com notes that many of the white metal trade dollar patterns came from the collection of Mint Director Henry Linderman and may have been struck for his own cabinet. It is struck in white metal with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1429, Adams-Woodin 1329 and Taxay EP931. Cataloged as PCGS #61572.
