Coin Details
Description
Featuring the Liberty Head obverse and heraldic eagle reverse of the production $20 gold piece, J-1250 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The double eagle, America's highest regular denomination containing nearly an ounce of gold, received seven varieties in 1872, the largest group assigned to any gold denomination. The application of standard silver alloy to the $20 coin created one of the most impressive pieces in the Trade Dollar era program by sheer size alone.
