The 1871 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1153 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1871 silver dollar dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1871 off-metal strikings from the regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. The nickel piece, believed unique, is ex Woodin (1914 ANS exhibition), Newcomer and Farouk. It is struck in nickel with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1295 and Adams-Woodin 1097. Cataloged as PCGS #61415.
