1871 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1122
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The aluminum rendering of the first dollar design group, J-1122 translates the Seated Liberty and eagle concept into the lightest possible form. An aluminum silver dollar weighs barely more than a production half dime, creating the most dramatic physical contrast of any pattern in the Trade Dollar era. The piece was never a serious candidate for production but documented the complete spectrum of metallurgical possibilities for this critical denomination.
