Description
Featuring a modified Seated Liberty obverse with a more prominent representation of the IN GOD WE TRUST motto and a refined eagle reverse, J-1123 was struck in the standard silver alloy. The emphasis on the national motto reflects the growing importance of this inscription in post-Civil War coinage design, as IN GOD WE TRUST had only been added to coins during the wartime crisis of 1864. Each modification to the motto's presentation on dollar patterns carried both artistic and political significance.
