Description
A copper rendering of the design introduced in J-1139, this dollar pattern provides the standard base-metal comparison for the new concept. After the extraordinary thoroughness of the J-1138 metallurgical survey, the subsequent dollar patterns returned to the more typical three-composition testing protocol of standard silver, copper, and aluminum. This streamlined approach allowed more design concepts to be evaluated while conserving the Mint's pattern-production resources.
