Description
The first variant of J-1138, this dollar pattern shares the same obverse and reverse concepts but was struck in a different composition or exhibits distinct die characteristics. The 'a' through 'f' suffixes for J-1138 document one of the most extensive metallurgical surveys applied to any single trade dollar design concept, as Barber tested the design across every available alloy to determine which composition best served both the artistic vision and practical requirements of international commerce.
Rarity Notes
