Description
Featuring a refined version of the Commercial Eagle design with modifications to the eagle's wing positioning and the arrangement of surrounding elements, J-1129 was struck in the standard silver alloy. This refinement of the trade dollar concept shows the iterative design process in action, as Barber adjusted proportions and details based on feedback from Mint officials and Treasury Department evaluators. Each refinement brought the design closer to the final form that would be adopted in 1873.
