The 1870 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-804a is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 silver three-cent dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. The single known piece tested as 65.85% copper and 34.15% zinc. It is struck in brass with a plain edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-892.
