Description
Struck in the experimental standard silver alloy, J-795 features the Seated Liberty trime obverse design with the distinctive star-within-C reverse that had characterized the silver three-cent piece since 1851. The trime had been created during the California Gold Rush era to address the hoarding of larger silver coins, and by 1870 it existed alongside its copper-nickel sibling in an unusual dual-composition arrangement for the same denomination. Linderman's standard silver version of this design represented yet another compositional variant for a denomination already produced in two distinct alloys.
