Description
Departing from the established trime design, J-797 introduces a Liberty Head obverse paired with a reverse featuring a Roman numeral III enclosed within a wreath. Struck in silver, this pattern represents William Barber's exploration of alternative design concepts for the three-cent denomination. The Liberty Head motif offered a more conventional portrait approach compared to the seated figure, and the wreath reverse provided greater visual prominence to the denomination indicator than the star-within-C reverse of the production trime.
