Description
The 1869 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-676 is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is the coronet Liberty head and its reverse a Roman numeral III in a laurel wreath, as in the 1868 sets. Two reverse dies are known: short dentils with a low wreath (Pollock-753, several dozen known) and long dentils with a centered wreath (Pollock-755, about a dozen). It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-4 to R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-753 and Pollock-755, Adams-Woodin 814 and 815 and Taxay EP552. Cataloged as PCGS #60901.
