Description
The 1869 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-690a is a unique five-cent muling in the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It is a muling of the 1866 Washington obverse with IN GOD WE TRUST and the 1869 Liberty head obverse, believed to have been struck outside the Mint from dies sold as scrap and bought by Joseph J. Mickley. The single example is ex Crosby and Garrett. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-767. Cataloged as PCGS #61828.
