Description
The 1869 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-685 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is the coronet Liberty head with a star on the coronet, and its reverse a V inside a wreath closed by a Maltese cross and a scroll with the motto. USPatterns.com confirms a single copper example. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-764, Adams-Woodin 804 and Taxay EP556.
