Description
The 1869 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-684 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is the coronet Liberty head with a star on the coronet, and its reverse a V inside a wreath closed by a Maltese cross and a scroll with the motto. It was issued in sets with the cent and three-cent patterns, with a reported 100 struck in nickel. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-5. It is also catalogued as Pollock-763, Adams-Woodin 803 and Taxay EP555. Cataloged as PCGS #60909.
