Description

This proof half dollar pattern is the ninth variety in the prolific 1869 series. J-750 was struck during a year of significant change at both the Mint and the national level, with the Grant administration taking office and new Mint Director Henry Linderman bringing fresh priorities to the institution. The extensive pattern program was partly intended to demonstrate the Mint's capabilities and ambitions to the incoming leadership.
