Description

The sixth and final cent pattern variety for 1869, this proof piece concludes the Indian Head cent experimental program for the last year of the Reconstruction era. J-671 marks the end of a four-year cent pattern series spanning 1866-1869 that produced approximately twenty varieties, documenting the denomination's evolution through the IN GOD WE TRUST mandate and the transition from Longacre to Barber. The Indian Head cent would continue in production through 1909 without fundamental design changes, validating the experimental work documented in these patterns.
