Description
The 1869 Proof Cent Pattern - J-666 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is Longacre's coronet Liberty head with LIBERTY on the coronet, and its reverse a Roman numeral I in a laurel wreath, repeating the 1868 set design. It was struck from at least three obverse and two reverse dies (Pollock-741 to 743) and issued in sets with the three-cent and five-cent patterns. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-741, Pollock-742 and Pollock-743, Adams-Woodin 820 and Taxay EP548. Cataloged as PCGS #60890.
