Description
The 1868 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-618 is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is close to the regular nickel three-cent design set in more open fields, and its reverse shows a Roman numeral III, without the regular coin's ribbing, inside a laurel wreath. USPatterns.com reports that between 50 and 100 were believed struck in nickel for the sets. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-4. It is also catalogued as Pollock-687, Adams-Woodin 692 and Taxay EP516. Cataloged as PCGS #60834.
