Description
The 1868 Proof Three Cent Pattern - J-615, Thick is a proof three-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is the nickel three-cent Liberty head set into a cent-size die, which leaves an unusually wide border, and its reverse shows a plain Roman numeral III inside an agricultural wreath. USPatterns.com reports that around 100 sets were believed struck in nickel. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-5. It is also catalogued as Pollock-680, Adams-Woodin 688 and Taxay EP513. Cataloged as PCGS #70827.
