Description

Judd-439, Pollock-510, is a 1865 proof quarter eagle With Motto pattern struck in copper. This pattern tests the placement of IN GOD WE TRUST on the two-and-a-half-dollar gold denomination's reverse. The quarter eagle had been largely unchanged since 1840, and adding the motto represented the first significant design modification in twenty-five years. The copper composition served as a cost-effective substitute for gold while preserving the design details for evaluation. Struck with proof finish.

Rarity Notes

Rarity-7. Approximately 5-10 specimens known in copper.
