Description

Judd-278, Pollock-324, is a proof half dollar pattern featuring the GOD OUR TRUST motto in a different configuration than J-277. This variety places the motto on a scroll or ribbon above the eagle on the reverse, testing one of several possible locations for the religious sentiment. The subtle differences between J-277 through J-280 document the Mint's deliberate process of evaluating various motto placements to find the most aesthetically pleasing and technically feasible arrangement. Struck in silver with full proof surfaces, this pattern would have been distributed to Treasury officials and Congressmen for their input on the preferred design.
