Description

Judd-420, Pollock-493, is the sole 1865 proof half dime With Motto pattern, representing the final entry in the denomination's motto development program. Combined with J-323 and J-324 (1863) and J-378 through J-380 (1864), this makes the sixth half dime motto pattern. The single 1865 variety indicates the design had been substantially finalized in previous years and needed only minimal adjustment. The With Motto half dime entered production in 1866 and continued through the denomination's final year of 1873.
