Description

Judd-371, Pollock-442, is the ninth 1864 proof two-cent pattern, known in multiple compositions including a variant designated J-371a. The existence of both a standard and an off-metal version indicates this particular design iteration was considered promising enough to warrant testing in additional alloys. The bronze standard version would be consistent with the adopted production composition, while the variant may be struck in copper, nickel, or another experimental metal.
