Description
Judd-366, Pollock-437, is the fourth 1864 proof two-cent pattern. This variety tests a specific configuration of the shield and motto that may differ from preceding varieties in the proportions of the shield stripes, the size and style of the motto lettering, or the arrangement of the arrows and olive branch flanking the shield. Each of these details required careful calibration to create a visually balanced design that would reproduce well at the small diameter of the two-cent planchet.
