Description
Judd-367, Pollock-438, is the fifth 1864 proof two-cent pattern. The middle section of the 1864 two-cent series (J-365 through J-370) represents the heart of the final design refinement process, with the basic shield-and-motto concept established and the work focusing on achieving the optimal visual balance. These patterns would have been examined by Mint Director James Pollock, whose name is commemorated in the secondary catalog reference system, and by Chief Engraver Longacre, who executed the designs.
