Description
MUDC-2c-1864-02 is a mule die clash on an 1864 two-cent piece (Large Motto), cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. Some time before it was put into service, the reverse die that struck this coin clashed with an Indian Head cent obverse die. MDC considers all mule clashes to have been made intentionally, and links a possible explanation by Rick Snow for the mule clashes on 1857 Flying Eagle cents. The reverse shows the outline of the Indian Head portrait, and MDC compares the profile with the clash marks. The marks lie in medallic alignment, not normal coin alignment. John D. Call discovered the coin undiagnosed on eBay and supplied the images (eBay seller capped-bust-deals).
