Description
Judd-316, Pollock-368, is a late-stage proof two-cent pattern from 1863. As the design neared its final form, the differences between successive varieties became increasingly subtle, sometimes involving only minor changes to letter size, device spacing, or decorative element positioning. J-316 represents one of these fine-tuning steps, where the basic shield-and-motto concept was settled and the remaining work focused on achieving the most aesthetically balanced arrangement possible within the small diameter of the two-cent planchet.
