Description

Judd-308, Pollock-360, presents another iteration of the shield-and-motto two-cent design. By the time J-308 was produced, the basic concept of a Union shield bearing IN GOD WE TRUST (or a variant thereof) was firmly established, and the remaining design work focused on proportional adjustments and decorative refinements. The two-cent denomination was entirely new, having never been produced in American coinage, and the Mint took the opportunity to create a design that broke from the established Seated Liberty motif used on other silver denominations.
