Description
Judd-315, Pollock-367, continues the systematic refinement of the two-cent piece design. This variety is part of the final group of 1863 two-cent patterns (J-315 through J-318) that represent the most advanced stage of design development before the 1864 production decision. The pattern may feature modifications to the reverse wreath composition, with various combinations of wheat ears, laurel leaves, and other botanical elements tested before the final wheat wreath design was selected. The two-cent piece's reverse wreath would become one of the most recognizable elements of Civil War era coinage.
